September 2020 New Arrivals

Hello world,

Band practice really wore me out tonight so let's just dive straight into it.

SEPTEMBER NEW ARRIVALS

This month, I am most excited about these reissues of the first two Armia LPs. I don't think words can really do these records justice. I once read that Armia cited The Ramones and Rush as their biggest influences and that simultaneously makes no sense at all while also making total sense. Their ability to capture the immediacy and attack of punk while also weaving such evocative and dynamic compositions, the horns and samples, the epic arrangements that stay firmly in "mood" while never veering into boring or pretension....kinda like Man is the Bastard, they're records that demonstrate the wide array of sounds and ideas that are possible under the banner of punk....maybe even transcend punk a little bit.

These records are such huge parts of the soundtrack to my life. I remember taking a screenprinting class in college and the first thing I did was make myself an Armia shirt, with the cover of the first 7". Still have it at my parents' house hahaha. I am filled with joy to have these reissues easily available in the USA....but also, they were pretty tricky to acquire, and I don't think it'll be possible for me to restock them. So please buy them quick if you have an interest.

(And especially if you were into that PI$$ER LP I just released, you really should hear this stuff next.)

This month we've got a nice spread of Swedish hardcore. Of course you already know you need Totalitar EP and Exploator LP, duh, but do you know about Parasit LP? A very 'members of' type band but ex-Uncurbed is all I really needed to hear myself.

We also have some choice picks from the rest of the world. Everyone is gushing about new Life LP for good reason, after 30 years they've mastered their crasher-crust-meets-Mob 47 style and it's a thing of beauty. I was particularly thrilled for Apsurd LP, the vinyl debut of Serbia's latest hardcore sensation, and the new The War Goes On LP, a perfect blending of melodic USHC and modern/retro Danish punk. Their first LP a few years back is one of my top contemporary punk records and I still listen to it all the time.

Quick note, we were able to restock some of the Grazhdanskaya Oborona LPs we had earlier in the year. I think we're really scraping the bottom of the barrel of copies from the label, they're basically sold out of all this stuff so I don't think we'll be able to restock again.

And finally, I'm selling a couple choice used records from my personal collection, as part of my larger effort to downsize my record collection and move more into a 'quality over quantity' direction. Personally I don't think there's anything super exciting listed but there might be something you missed the first time around so it's worth having a look.

For more commentary on this stuff and more, please scope our Instagram page, where we review choice new arrivals as they come. If it sounds cool when we talk about it, it'll sound even cooler when you hear it streaming on the online store, and even cooler still when you buy the record and slap it on your turntable.
